my first impression of Yale

When I first arrived at Yale, on Sunday, the only two thoughts that went through my head walking on campus were "this place is so big" and "where's my bed?".
The following day, after some sleep and a day of classes, I had some additional thoughts: "the food is not that bad", "where do I find time to do all this stuff?", and "I'm probably lost". I expected the workload to be quite dense, don't get me wrong, but not from the first day! It's stressful, but I know how to deal with situations like this: I have to take one day at a time. Luckily though, I get along well with my coursemates, and the fact that we laugh together makes things easier.

Here are some things I did on my first full day at Yale.

Because of the jetlag, I woke up around 4 AM so I got the chance to walk a little around campus before going to class.

Saybrook College

After class, I went to Berkeley North Library with my peers to study.
I didn't get much done, but I had lots of fun.

When we went to have dinner I saw this.
An American flag on pasta.
As an Italian, this view shook me to the core and is now haunting me in my worst nightmares.
It really changed my perspective of Americans. I used to like them. Now I really don't know what to think.

  1. Please forgive the Americans for their obsession over the flag - it bothers me tremendously too...the pasta thing is unforgiveable however. I will see if I can do anything about your extraordinary workload, and it is very important that you enjoy your classmates. and can laugh about it until then. Thank you for your first impression.
